Counselor’s Corner

This quarter I will continue to work with students on their social/ emotional growth. It has been shown that when students are able to identify and control their emotions, their academic skills increase.

Zones of Regulation and 2nd Steps are two programs that WBCSD counselors use to help students increase their mastery of this skill.

The Zones of Regulation is a social thinking and social skills curriculum that we are using schoolwide this year. The Zones helps students become more aware of and in-control of their emotions and impulses. Students have learned which emotions fit into the four zones and will start to identify what zone they are in during the day. Students will also learn strategies to cope with different emotions so
they can to get back into the green zone to feel more comfortable and ready to learn at school.

2nd Steps is a program that enhances a child’s caring and empathy for others.

Students in grades K–5 continue developing their social-emotional skills— including making friends, managing emotions, and
solving problems—to set them on the path for social success and academic readiness.

Please contact Ms. Bridges if you have any
questions regarding either of these two programs.
